GASTRONOMIC ITINERARY

Once you have left your suitcases at the VENICE LUGGAGE DEPOSIT in the morning, and you would like to have breakfast, we suggest some cafes frequented by the locals:

1 – after leaving the VLD, turn left, pass Corte Perini and then exit into Salizada San Lio. Here turn left for about 20 meters to Campo San Lio, where you will see a small bridge on the right. On the bridge you will find the Ponte delle Paste café, for a good coffee in a cosy space. 5 minutes on foot

2 – otherwise, left the VLD turn right and take after 3 meters the “sotoportego” that leads to Calle della Fava, go along the calle and pass the bridge that leads into Calle degli Stagneri, after 10 meters turn left and come out in Merceria (Calle delle Acque), turn left and you find yourself at Rosa Salva, a historic Venetian cafe, known for its savory pastries and “tramezzini”: among the best in the city. It is frequented by the Venetians especially at aperitif time, but also for breakfast. 5 minutes on foot
Two other locations of the same company are located in Calle Fiubera, near Piazza San Marco, and in Campo SS Giovanni e Paolo (Civil Hospital)

3 – A little further away, near PIazza San Marco, in Campo SS Filippo e Giacomo, enter Calle degli Albanesi and you will immediately find a very small typical Venetian coffee, Bonifacio. The space is tiny but the smell of coffee and croissants are worth the visit. Try the “Mamelucchi” special pancakes from an ancient Venetian recipe, if you pass by during the Carnival. 10 min walk

4 – It then remains the most fascinating and most expensive option: a coffee in Piazza San Marco! A few minutes walk from the VLD you can enjoy the athmosphere of the most beautiful square in the world,

For those who deposit their bags with us later, and want to have lunch in the neighborhood, there are plenty of alternatives to classic restaurants

A few steps from the VLD, in Calle della Bissa, at the Rosticceria you can taste a steaming “mozzarella in carrozza”, cannelloni, potato croquettes and many hot first courses of fish, try also the “tramezzini”. Very busy place from h 12 to h 14, frequented by the Venetians. 5 min walk

In Campo SS Filippo e Giacomo (see point 3), the Aciugheta wine bar offers a great selection of wines, excellent spritz and above all the small pizzas to the anchovy that give the name to the place.
10 min walk

From Campo San Lio (see point 1), take Calle Fava towards Ponte delle Paste. After crossing the bridge you will find yourself in front of the entrance to a historic bacaro, Al Portego, for an aperitif and a “cicheto” chosen among many, of fish, vegetables or meat. 5 min walk

For a classic stop “alla veneziana”, with a “ombre” and a cicheto, the classic starting point, meeting place at the aperitif time, nothing better than passing the Rialto Bridge and discover the small “bacari” always packed and noisy! . We warmly suggest “Al Mercà”, near the fish market, slightly bigger than a square meter! 5 min walk
